In May 2023 Professor Anne Bamford OBE, the Strategic Director of Education, Culture and Skills for the City of London visited Kulturprinsen in Viborg. She has done great research in the important role of qualified art and culture in primary education – for the children and for the professionals.
We had a talk about her view on the characteristics of arts education in the Danish school system based on a research and review from 2006, The Ildsjæl in the Classroom – A review on Danish Arts Education in the Folkeskole (public school). We talked about the weaknesses and strengths and the differences from then to today. We also asked Anne what she thinks is important in terms of giving higher priority to arts education in the school curricula at political level.
